MagNet researchers showcase work at leading journalism conference in Cardiff

Seven researchers from MagNet (Magazine Media Research Network) took part in the Future of Journalism Conference, held at Cardiff University (UK) on 11–12 September 2025. Recognized as the leading international conference dedicated to the study of journalism, the event drew scholars from around the globe to explore emerging challenges and innovations in media.
The MagNet team delivered three presentations: Ilo Alexandre presented “Headlines Are Dead? Long Live the FYP: How Portuguese News Outlets Are Using TikTok”; Sónia Lamy delivered “Should We Talk About Activist Journalism? How Portuguese Journalism Frames Feminist Struggles”, co-authored with Carla Cerqueira; Boris Krywicki presented "Streaming journalism: balancing information and entertainment", Dora Santos Silva presented two works: "The 3Cs or Covering Conflict with a Constructive approach: Solutions Journalism as Practice" and "Conflicts inside and out the newsroom: impact on Portuguese-speaking journalists’ mental health and well-beingand", Einat Lachover delivered “From Lifestyle to War Stories: Navigating National Crisis in Lifestyle Women’s Magazines in Wartime”, and Joy Jenkins also presented two works: "Critical information needs and machine learning: A methodology for an audience-centric understanding of the local news provision" and "The War at Home: The Roles and Practices of Russian Journalists Reporting From Exile."
MagNet is an international network of researchers in Magazine Studies, hosted by MagLab at CICANT | Universidade Lusófona. It unites scholars worldwide who study all forms of magazines. Through research, publications, conferences, and collaborative projects, MagNet contributes significantly to advancing knowledge about magazine media.
