Program

MagLab is pleased to announce the 2nd edition of the biennial Future of Magazine conference (FoM), organized by CICANT, Lusófona University research center, on 29 – 31 October 2025. Elena Caratti, PhD, Associate Professor in the Department of Design at Politecnico di Milano, will deliver the keynote “Exo-Publishing as a Space Other: The Cultural and Political Power of Indie Magazines.” Additional keynote speaker announcements will follow soon. 

Elena Caratti

Elena Caratti, PhD, is Associate Professor at the Department of Design, Politecnico di Milano. She holds a Master in Architecture and a PhD in Design and Multimedia Communication. She is currently Chair of the Bachelor's and Master's degree course in Communication Design, where she teaches Editorial Design at the Ba and Ma in Communication Design. At the Doctoral School of Politecnico she teaches Positioning research and she is member of the Doctoral Collegium. For years she has been conducting research in the field of visual cultures and editorial design. Author of Rimediazioni Gender-Sensitive (2015), she co-edited the book Design is translation (2016), and the book Designing ethically in a complex world (2024).

Patrícia Reis (Lisbon, 1970) is a journalist, writer, and curator. She began her career at the weekly newspaper O Independente and later worked for Expresso, various women’s magazines, Antena 1, and Rádio Observador. She is co-author of the podcast Um Género de Conversa (“A Kind of Talk”) and curator of the multi-award-winning cultural magazine Egoísta. As a fiction writer, she has been publishing with Dom Quixote since 2000. For the biography collection of the publisher Contraponto, she authored A Desobediente - Biografia de Maria Teresa Horta. She holds a master’s degree in Religious Sciences and is currently pursuing a PhD in Communication Sciences at Lusófona University.
