Maglab completes three years
The Magazine Media Lab (MagLab), the world's first international research lab specializing in the field of Magazine Studies, is celebrating three years of activities, solidifying its position as a global benchmark for the analysis and development of this evolving communication area. Based at CICANT, Lusófona University research center, the lab pursues the consolidation and expansion of Magazine Studies as an autonomous academic discipline.
A core achievement of MagLab is the publication of the International Journal of Magazine Studies (IJMS), an open-access, peer-reviewed journal, issued annually and intended to be a platform of excellence for the exchange of cutting-edge knowledge. To date, IJMS has released two issues, in 2024 and 2025, which collectively attest to the richness and complexity of this field of study, with articles originating from various countries and addressing multiple dimensions of the magazine phenomenon.
In parallel, MagLab organises the biennial Future of Magazine conferenceFuture of Magazine conference (FoM), an international event that has become a crucial meeting point for researchers and industry professionals. The most recent edition, held on 29–31 October 2025 in Lisbon, gathered researchers and media professionals around the theme “(Re)Thinking Magazines: Challenges and Opportunities,” featuring keynote talks, thematic sessions, and workshops, reinforcing MagLab’s commitment to bridging academic inquiry and industry practice.
