David E. Sumner is a professor emeritus of journalism at Ball State University, Muncie, IN. I was head of the magazine media track at Ball State from 1990-2015. I am the co-author of Feature and Magazine Writing (1st, 2nd, and 3rd editions), Magazines: A Complete Guide to the Industry, and The Magazine Century: American Magazines Since 1900 (1st, and 2nd editions). Since retiring from teaching, I have written two other books about American college football history. I have written hundreds of freelance newspaper and magazine articles. I am no longer involved in research and writing about magazine history but continue to write and publish on other subjects of interest. I have a PhD in communication from the University of Tennessee.
