Celebrating One Year of MagLab: A Year of Achievements and Gratitude

6 December, 2023

MagLab is excited to share the joy of completing our first year, and what a remarkable journey it has been! From our launch on December 6, 2022, to the recent launch of the International Journal of Magazine Studies, we’ve achieved significant milestones that wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our dedicated MagNet members and the broader community interested in Magazine Studies.

Over the past year, MagLab has grown substantially, welcoming over 40 MagNet members, some of them since the very beginning, having joined us at the MagLab launch. On that memorable day, December 6, 2022, we explored the profound question of why “Magazines do Matter”. Little did we know that this was just the beginning of an enriching and transformative journey in the realm of Magazine Studies.

In February 2023, we took another step forward by launching our official MagLab website, creating a virtual space for the exchange of ideas and information. The highlight of our mid-year accomplishments was the successful hosting of the first Future of Magazine International Conference in July. We were honored to have esteemed speakers such as David Abrahamson, Nico Carpentier, and James Hewes, who added depth and insight to the discussions.

Our most recent achievement, and one we are particularly proud of, is the International Journal of Magazine Studies (IJMS) launch. This platform serves as a hub for cutting-edge knowledge, fostering a profound understanding of the evolving nature and significance of magazine formats in contemporary society. Until January 8, 2024, we are actively welcoming submissions for the first issue of IJMS, providing scholars with an opportunity to contribute to this growing field of study.

As we celebrate this significant milestone, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you who has been part of MagLab’s inaugural year. Your support, ideas, and engagement have been invaluable in establishing MagLab as the first international research Lab specializing in Magazine Studies.

This first year has been truly remarkable, and we are thrilled to have you on this journey with us. As we approach the holiday season, the MagLab team wishes you a Merry Christmas and a fantastic 2024! Feel free to contact MagLab whenever you have ideas to share or wish to collaborate on projects.

Here’s to many more years of exploration, discovery, and collaboration in the fascinating world of Magazine Studies. Cheers to the future!
